DRUMROLL PLEASE: FREE WORKSHOP IN JANUARY!!

This is your BIG OPPORTUNITY to get moving and it won’t cost you a dime! For those of you who read my previous post about feeling stale and wanting to jazz things up a little, not just for myself but for you too, well this is it! This is the first step in getting you off your butt and taking charge :)

Us over here at Lori Moss Photography (okay it’s just me and the dog) well we strongly believe that merely existing, paying the bills, and hanging out isn’t what life is about!  Why not be extraordinary? Why not help others?  I work hard to not just provide a life for myself (and the dog) but so I can also give back;  God calls us to care for others financially and with our time.  If you can’t let go of money to help others than you’re really doing yourself a big injustice.  Giving is awesome!  There’s always more to give, and since money isn’t everything, I’m going to give you a piece of me. It’s a double wammy!  Myself and Charla have decided to give a big gift from our hearts to your hearts.  That’s right, a free workshop in January.

Where> my kickin’ new Client Experience space in my home, St.John’s.

When> January 16, 2010 {2pm - 4pm}

Who> we’ll be taking THREE extremely lucky people with working knowledge of MANUAL camera settings

HOW> You have one week (deadline is Friday, Dec 11) to email me a photo of yourself.  On Dec 14th there will be a blog post containing everyone’s images and from there it’s in your hands.  Round up your family, friends, pets, to vote for you!  We’ll be automatically taking the top three people with the most votes.

What> We will be focusing the content on YOUR questions.  The top 3 entrants, as decided through public voting, will each have the chance to ask us their TOP 5 questions…no question is taboo as long as it’s not what kind of underwear we have on.  Anything from how to get a blurry background, to workflow, contracts, weddings, marketing, Lightroom, Photoshop, what kind of hairspray I use…whatever you fancy.

This is our gift to you to get you motivated and started on what could be a brilliant photography career! Or you could just want to take better photos of your kids, we welcome everyone with knowledge of manual settings to enter. We’re already excited to meet you!

CLARIFY! …another one bites the dust

I hate it when workshops are over!  There’s those moments of uncertainty; did people enjoy it? did they learn? did I have cheese stuck in my teeth?  But there’s also the great moments; the thank-yous, the new friends, the conversations.  Charla and I are totally blessed to have met such an open-minded group of fellow photographers from across the island…I hope we got the message across that it’s not about being THE best photographer, but about being the best YOU.

Figuring out who you are, what you want, what you have to offer, and how to attain your goals is such a huge part of being successful. So ask yourself: what does success mean to you? Is it money? Is it the number of clients you have? Is it being a household name? Is it the amount of free time you gain? Is it balance? Is it being able to pay the bills? Is it helping others? Is it working to live, not living to work?  I rarely measure success in monetary terms; yes I want to pay my bills, yes I want new equipment, yes I want a new car one day, yes I want a bigger house, yes I want to travel, but are those things truly important?

When you’re laying on your death bed will you say to yourself “boy I sure am glad I spent 12 hours a day on my computer obsessing about photoshop, lightroom, and other people’s blogs instead of living my own life and giving back to my community”?.  I didn’t think so.

I’m not the best at following an outline or agenda when it comes to public speaking, so whether or not I am an asset or liability in a workshop environment (I’ll have to ask Charla) remains to be seen, but I do know my heart is in the right place and I want to see everyone succeed.  I can see already that our returning attendees from exciteYOU have made huge strides…it’s only gets better from here folks!

I’d like to extend a huge, warm, squishy bear-hug to our fab fab fab models, Andrew and Kim, who stood for hours in a wet parking garage and dingy alley, all in the name of learning.  Plus, The Bridal Salon really came through for us at the last minute by providing Kim with a knock-out dress when the one she originally borrowed turned out to be too snug!  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Charla and I are both heading into an insane wedding season with no current plans for another workshop. We’re unsure of what the fall will bring, so if you are interested please watch our blogs and comment there, unfortunately I can’t get back to everyone who emails me privately (though I appreciate you all!).

And because every post is better with a few photos, here are some of mine from the shoot:

FreeYOU on Saturday

I can’t tell you Blog how excited I am for Sunday!  Boy oh boy…how far we’ve come.   I really feel like Charla and I have accomplished something this month.  Like “hang out with cool photographers who are actually interested in what you have to say” CHECK.  I am one lucky girl, Blog.  On top of all that, the weather is nice.  That’s right ‘nice’! I’ve woken up all week to actual sun shine being broadcast into my bedroom and I have to do a double take…I’ve been waking up thinking it’s summer.  A quick glance between the blinds confirms that I’ve definitely been wrong about that…but still! It’s progress.  Can’t help but feel good with a little sunshine, some good friends, and stumbling onto some great new music!  I suggest everyone download Adele’s new album (legally from iTunes of course!).

Check back on Sunday for some workshop banter!
