Hey Lori
That’s great you are donating cash - but just a heads up to you and your blog followers (myself included, I check every week) that the gov’t only matches each donation of 50$ - so if you can donate more than 50$, donate in 50$ intervals. The gov’t will not match a 500$ donation. Every cent helps though, so donate what you can!
Hi Sarah! I got this directly from the government website, which says it matches up to $100,000 per individual. They are capping the matching program at $50 million, maybe someone misinterpreted that bit?
The maximum amount per single donation that the government will match is $100,000. To count toward the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, donations must be:
* made by an individual Canadian;
* made to a registered Canadian charitable organization that is receiving donations in response to the January 12 Haiti earthquake;
* specifically earmarked by such organizations for the purpose of responding to the earthquake; and,
* made between January 12 and February 12, 2010.
