Haiti is in dire need of our prayers and international relief efforts. Their need is urgent so I will make this quick and let you know that for every comment left on this post in the next 24 hours (4pm NL time today until 4pm NL time tomorrow) I’ll be donating $1 to the Red Cross Haiti relief fund (up to $2000). I think instead of one person commenting over and over it’s much more effective to spread the word about the situation facing aide workers and victims alike by forwarding this message.
I thought about just making a donation without doing this post, but I want you to spread the word! By leaving a comment here, clicking the links, watching the video, you are taking action.
P.S. I’m not in Haiti so obviously did not take this photo, but it’s so powerful. No tears, no torn clothing, no one looking particularly distressed or disheveled. This woman could be any woman walking down the street and taking care of business…it’s just so normal and human.

Not sure how this works but a great idea. I understand the govt is matching every dollar donated, so are we to pledge an amount to you and then that amount will be doubled? This means that a donation of $5 would morphe into $20! Great, I will do it. If you need someone to collect the cash, ask your friend Bev Bennett. Thanks Lori. Haitians have had a bad rap for a very long time and now to be hit with this…they need the world’s help.

I am experiencin difficulty coming to terms with such a horrific disaster occuring in Haiti. It is hard to comprehend how little these people have and then to also loose their homes, schools, hospitals. It is nearly impossible for me to comprehend.

Haiti was a poor country before this, with a long history of political and social problems; racial discrimination, dictators, rebellions, military coups, and the one consistent factor; corruption. Nearly half the deaths each year are due to HIV/Aids. While people who visit the Dominican Republic — the other side of the island — often talk about the poverty they see there, in comparison the DR is doing very well.
This is a terrible tragedy, and it’s good to see the way that people can work together to try and help.
I’m also donating money, but in a less public manner.

Great job and a great idea…maybe more people will follow your lead. There were two people from my hometown of Glovertown involved in the disaster (they are fine) so it sort of hits home for us. Keep up the good work and I am sure that you will surpas your goal on this one.

I can’t imagine the stress and fear Haitian parents must be going through right now wondering if their babies are going to survive one more day. I pray help will reach them as soon as possible.

I watched some of the news coverage earlier … I can’t imagine what those poor people are going through …
We are so lucky to live where we do. It is so heart breaking with what other ppl have to go through. It is very sad what happened. I am also proud of what Canada is doing to help them we are really coming together. All the power to you and keep up the good work.

Hi Marius, thanks for commenting! $500 means a lot more in Haiti than it does in my bank account and plus, the government will double it so it’s actually $1000!

Let me just start by saying that I think what you are doing Lori is wonderful….hats off to you. What has happen in Haiti is tragic and out of our control but how we come together at a time like this isn’t and every little bit contributed counts. Thanks Lori fior giving people this opportunity. The earthquake in Haiti is a tragedy that none of us will forget in our lifetime, and it is hard to imagine the TRUE devastation in photos, but the photo on this page is heartbreaking. I can only imagine the relief of the lady in the photo to be holding her child, and the heartbreak she feels for all that is happening around her. Lori, this is a wonderful idea and I know it will make a difference to those in Haiti. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to post this comment and god bless those affected by this tragedy.
