Greg + Karen…Atlantica mmm

Good friends, family, and food.  My three favorite F’s.  Greg and Karen ticked all those boxes on Tuesday! Tuesday? you may ask.  Yes, Blog, Tuesday…and let me just say, I think ALL weddings should be held on weekdays…just think of how much free time I’d have on the weekends :)

I may have stuck out a little, there being only 18 guests and me.  But heck, I’m a good sport! Right? RIGHT?!

Sorry guys, it’s late and I’m loopy from having too good a time at too many weddings this week.  Greg and Karen, your wedding definitely stands out in my mind not just for its simplicity, but for your genuinity (that’s a word right??), generosity, and good looks infront of the camera! Greg, model much?

Oh and don’t forget the whales! Though I was mesmerized and completely forgot to take photos, the memory of dozens of whales gallivanting for our viewing pleasure the entire day will live on.

Please enjoy this fine selection of favorite photos as I pass out ‘cold junk’ (Newfie speak).

Luke Skywalker and Princess Leah cake topper! Rad.

Greg, funny guy, ducking out the window right before the ceremony…

Hmm looks like his new dad may just like him afterall!

Greg goes in for a Twizzler…

Not your average cake cutting shot! Please don’t kill me…

A little nooky while others whale watched…

Chad + Jillian…all about the dress!

I hit up Gander over this past weekend to rock out Lori Moss style for Chad and Jillian’s wedding ELEVEN YEARS in the making!  I didn’t mean to shout, but come on…these two were obviously meant for each other.

First stop: the guys’ hotel room where I was once again greeted by men in their underwear (for my eyes only thankyouverymuch!) and of course, the Great Tie Struggle as seen at every wedding where men have been left to their own devices…

Over at the girls’ house, the Great Dress Debacle waged on…

Aha success!

I sort of snuck up on Jillian’s Dad…

Jillian’s mom was so beautiful and just beaming!

Rosaries on the clothes line in the hopes of bringing in the good weather!

Three generations…Jillian’s pin in commemoration of her grandma…

A little anxious moment before walking down the aisle…

The view from my end of the aisle as the bride makes her entrance :)

This reminds me of Cinderella where all the birds held up her dress…

Jillian’s dress was the perfect fairytale wedding dress…I love how it moved…

You know you’re in Gander when a water bomber makes an appearance…

Getting this shot was hazardous to my health!

Ok by far my fave shot of the day!  The lollipop was a great idea (thanks Jillian!)…

For family and friends who would like to be notified (soon! :) when all of the pictures from Jillian and Chad’s wedding are online, you can leave a comment below or email me at focus(at)lori-moss.com!

The Importance of Prep

I get asked this A LOT when helping my lovely brides plan their weddings; do you shoot the prep time?

I love shooting the getting ready times; they’re relaxed yet tense and they give me a unique opportunity to get to know the most important people in the bride’s life.  I can sort of skulk around keeping an ear out for who’s who; the funny one, the crazy one, the mother, the aunt, the cryer, and the trouble maker!

The second question I get is; should we be ready when you get here? And my answer is obvious; that would totally negate the purpose of ‘getting ready’ shots!  If you’re ready and waiting for your close-up then my images won’t be candid and that defeats the purpose of hiring me in the first place.  Your bridesmaids may not want to be caught with their Spanx down, which as a woman with a muffin-top I completely understand, but the magic comes when the bride and her friends are themselves. Nothing more.

So if you’re planning your own wedding and wondering if you need the prep time covered, it’s completely up to you, but I believe the time is valuable! As long your photographer is a skulker like me you’re all set.

I loved my time with Tiffany & Co. (pun intended) before her wedding a few weeks ago (you can read the original blog post here):

One last hug from her Dad before becoming a wife…

What are your thoughts on this? Whether from the bride’s perspective or from all you photographers out there!  If you’re a bride, what do you consider to be the most important part of the day? If you’re a photographer, what’s your favorite part of the day to shoot?

Colin + Stephanie…chuffed to bits!

Where to start? 20 hours of driving and this wedding was worth every minute.

I instantly knew it would be a good day when I walked into the guys’ hotel room for prep shots and was greeted by a shirtless man who held out his hand and, in a silky smooth English accent, said “Hello, I’m Colin”. Oh Blog how I swooned.  It’s a universal truth that all women love men with cool accents. Shirt or no shirt.

Not to be outdone, when I finally met Stephanie her beautiful smile and sweet talk of Colin didn’t disappoint!  Her bridesmaids, who came from around the world, filled me in on all the juicy gossip…none of which I’ll share here! You know it’s real friendship when you travel from Qatar to Newfoundland for one radtastic wedding day :)

I have to give a special shout out to Steph’s parents who are truly amazing people!  They’re the bee’s knees! The mutt’s nuts!  And various other British slang meaning “awesome” that I picked up during the reception thanks to Colin and Stephen (the bestman).   Oh yea, Stephen, your speech was fantastic!  Especially liked the part about finding inspiration in the toilet…

Ok enough chatter, once again I had a horrific time choosing photos; too much awesomeness.

Colin! Shirt on…sorry ladies…

Meanwhile, Stephanie was busy getting her make-up done by Colin’s sister…

Delicious cupcakes that the MOH, Linsday, made for the rehearsal party the night before…

Stephanie putting on the beautiful necklace Colin gave her…

Totally badass!  Colin’s nephews were wearing the coolest cufflinks they brought from the UK…

Colin and Stephanie opted for a First Look before the ceremony…one last hug from her Dad before going to meet Colin…

Just before the rain kicked in and we ran for the hills…

After a short, but beautiful, blessing of the union service, it was out to the beach with just Stephanie and Colin for a little celebratory champagne…

Stephanie was one beautiful bride…

Not bad for one take! Sorry Colin, had to post it…

A little touch-up before the reception…it was really windy and rainy up to this point!  Stephanie held up extremely well considering how cold it was…

I believe I forwarned the guys that anything goofy and potentially extremely embarrassing they did on the day would be caught on camera…this was no exception!  Colin and his groomsman, Paul, who’s his brother from another mother getting a little action in while Stephanie stepped out for a second, and I see Stephen is enjoying it immensely! Be thankful I didn’t post the shots of Colin in a lime green speedo and red cape…

Colin greeting his new father-in-law; I guess a kiss on the cheek was out of the question after the last photo!

Stephanie obviously didn’t see where those lips had been just moments earlier!

Leave it to the Brits to teach me a new drinking game!  Somewhere around 2am I learned about Boat Race: chug it and put the glass on your head or just dump the whole thing…

At Last!  In the wee hours of the morning the groom carries off his bride…
