Christmas Photo Challenge

I’m back at it again!  It’s less than a month to Christmas and less than two weeks until I leave for Florida :) so to celebrate I thought we’d do one last challenge to wrap up the year (pun intended).

THEME: ‘Tis the season.

WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN: The theme will mean something different to everyone!  There’s only one rule; no nude santas :)

ENTER:  as many photos as you’d like by December 2nd (next Tuesday).

VOTE: December 3rd - 6th.  VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

WIN: The entry that receives the largest number of votes will be featured the next day on the blog with a story about the photographer and insight into the photo.

I never vote in these challenges, but this time I’ve decided that once the contest is over I’ll post my favorite entry with a critique on why I chose it.   So don’t forget to enter! This is a great opportunity to share your work with your peers.

Happy shooting!

Two weeks remaining!

If you haven’t heard yet, this February I’ll be working with another local photographer (Charla.ca) to bring St.John’s a comprehensive, and affordable, set of photography workshops!  Our motto is Cameras don’t take great photos; people do!  So please, if you’re at all interested in learning more about your camera and how to use it, check out our workshops and receive early bird pricing until December 15th!  That’s about another two weeks so get crackin’!

Oooh Wee!

Just this evening these naive words escaped my naive lips; “I’m not even thinking about the new 5D” and oh how wrong, how very very wrong, I was.  Sigh…I should really know better. Because as soon as you harden your mind against something, that something sneaks up behind you while you’re diligently filing your nails and bang! plants a big, wet, expensive kiss right on your wallet.  Perhaps a stronger woman full of willpower and practiced self-restraint could resist such sweet temptations, but not I.

No, I’ll run blindly through the night into the arms of before mentioned temptation.  We’ll see one another across a crowded room, making eye contact for a split second that will send shivers down my spine.  We’ll stare into each other’s eye(opening) while holding hands(grip) in front of a roaring fireplace until we’re the only ones left in the joint.  And I guarantee, there will be a wedding within a week…I can already see it coming.

Got a boyfriend yet?

One of the most dreaded questions of any young girl who hasn’t even hit puberty yet is; got a boyfriend yet? For me in particular.  I have the type of personality that swings between painfully shy and slightly obnoxious, the latter being reserved for when there aren’t any boys around.  Not that boys have cooties and are gross or any of that Grade 3 stuff, but when you’ve got no game with the opposite sex the last thing you want is someone to bring it up…infront of hords of onlookers.

But that’s just what my Uncle Plem did my entire life.  And I loved it.  Whenever I walked into a room he was in, he’d stop what he was doing, smile, and ask; got a boyfriend yet?  I’ll always remember it.  He did that right up until he got too sick to really be himself anymore, but I knew if he could, he’d ask.

The last time I saw him, about a year ago, he’d just had his other leg amputated and said he’d never felt better! To which I replied we should all be so lucky; nothing like a bit of humor right? Although he was sick for the past few years and not quite himself, he was a great man whom we all loved dearly and am sad to know he’s gone, but excited to know he’s not suffering and is at home with his Father and saviour.

It’s never easy saying goodbye and even harder to watch those closest mourn, but God provides comfort and an eternal resting place where everyone has two good legs.  When I think about that, it’s hard to be sad.

Rest in peace and I’ll let you know when that boyfriend finally comes.
